Is Your Cookware Toxic?

We live in a world where the landscape of toxins, chemicals, and pathogens is greater than ever before. Exposure to chemicals, toxins, and heavy metals happens daily through the food we eat, water and beverages we consume, products we use, the air we breathe, and the environment we live in…  These exposures, alone and in combination, impact our bodies and compromise our health in a myriad of ways.

Cleansing the physical body is a foundational pillar of my Embodied Wellness Method — my signature method to support your body’s healing process and create radiant health. Cleansing our bodies of these harmful materials is vital to reverse and heal the symptoms, conditions, and illnesses that are rising exponentially. The more we cleanse our bodies and minimize our exposure to these toxins, chemicals, heavy metals, and pathogens, the more we support our body and enhance the cleansing process. While our bodies have innate cleansing and detoxification pathways and processes, they have become overburdened and their cleansing abilities compromised. Therefore, it remains essential to become aware of the sources of exposure as well as ways to reduce and cleanse our bodies toxic load.

While cleansing our physical body is essential, detoxing our home environment is also imperative. Just as we cleanse your body to reduce and eliminate toxins and pathogens, we need to reduce the number of exposures. Part of detoxing our environment involves looking at the products we use; including the cleaning, household, personal care products, and beyond. The quality of the cookware we use impacts our health beyond what we may realize.

Cookware is one of the most overlooked and most common sources of exposure to toxic heavy metals, chemicals, and toxins. Even if you use “clean” cookware, you may still be exposed to toxic cookware when dining out, as most restaurants utilize aluminum and stainless steel cookware.

The harmful ingredients and synthetic chemicals that toxic cookware contains, leach into our food, which then enter the bloodstream– impacting the health and compromising the function of our brains, livers, hearts, etc. These toxins, heavy metals, and chemicals accumulate in our bodies and can contribute to symptoms, conditions, and the progression of illness. Even if it is just “a little” exposure, it all adds up and compounds over time. Some of the “invisible” toxins and silent chemicals are the most dangerous and detrimental, especially as they relate to neurological health and conditions.

In becoming an informed consumer I realized my own misconceptions. I learned that cookware like Stainless Steel, which I thought was “clean,” is actually toxic. This knowledge helped me to make the aligned changes necessary to enhance my health and detox my cookware, allowing me to become more aware and empowered. I want to share some of what I have learned so you can become aware and take aligned action to protect your loved ones and support your health.

Understanding which Cookware is toxic:

Aluminumis a toxic heavy metal that acts as a neurotoxin that inhibits 200 biological functions in the body. It has been linked to depression, Alzheimer’s, and immunosuppression…

Cast Iron — The iron found cast iron cookware is not the same as the naturally occurring iron found in plants such as spinach. The iron can leach into the food and feed the pathogens causing symptoms, conditions, and illness.

Copper — a toxic heavy metal that accumulates in the liver and brain and has been linked to depression

Non-Stick Cookware Traditional “nonstick” cookware is plastic-based. These plastics, in addition to the chemicals used to turn them into nonstick coatings which are known as “forever chemicals,” increase the body's toxic load and *

Stainless SteelContains a blend of alloys including nickel, aluminum, and chromium. Oral doses of nickel and chromium have been shown to cause adverse reactions like dermatitis.

Teflon —  a toxic synthetic polymer that has been connected to birth defects, thyroid disease, cancer, miscarriages, liver disease, osteoarthritis, and Parkinson’s disease, among others…

*Forever Chemicals refer to a group of synthetic chemicals known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are a diverse group of thousands of synthetic organofluorine chemicals found in an array of products. They are termed "forever" because they do not break down in the environment nor in the human body, thus persist for a very long time. As a result, they accumulate in the body over time, leading to increasing concentrations and posing potential health risks. Some PFAS are able to cross the blood brain barrier. They cause harm to the central nervous system, liver, and body. PFAS have also been found in tap water and have been linked to “autoimmune” conditions, birth defects, and cancer.

Cleansing and detoxing these toxic heavy metals, chemicals, and toxins from your body is possible and essential to heal and create radiant health.
