Unveiling the Truth About Keto and Your Fertility

The world of nutrition can feel confusing and overwhelming, filled with conflicting advice. Food is simpler than we've been led to believe. It's time to cut through the noise and uncover the truth about what truly nourishes your body and optimizes your fertility. Today, I want to address the popular ketogenic diet and its often-overlooked impact on women's health and fertility.

 

Beyond the Hype: My Personal Journey

Like many, I was drawn to the promise of keto for reproductive health and fertility optimization. Initially, I experienced a surge of energy, but over time, my symptoms worsened. This personal experience sparked a deep dive into the research, revealing a story far more nuanced than the mainstream narrative conveys.

 

The Limitations of Keto Research

Many studies conducted on the Ketogenic are not longitudinal, meaning they are shorter term studies so they don’t follow the research participants over an extended period of time to accurately assess the long-term impact of the ketogenic diet. Another notable consideration is that these studies are conducted largely on male participants, many are white males, not females. This severely limits the applicability of findings to women's unique physiology and fertility.

 

What is Keto?

The Ketogenic diet is a low-carb high protein/high fat diet that consists primarily of animal-based protein like meat, poultry, fish, dairy, and eggs to deprive the body of glucose and put it into a state of ‘ketosis.' 

 

Keto & Fertility 

While many women are encouraged to prioritize a high protein/high fat diet as it has been conveyed that fat is essential for reproductive system health, this is not true. Keto does not code the body for health nor fertility. Rather, Keto codes the body for survival. When the body is in a state of survival, it is not in a state of creation. Keto eliminates most clean carbohydrates and fruits. Fruit is foundational for fertility. Ironically, the very foods you've been told to avoid are the ones that will help you heal and optimize your fertility. 

 

Keto & Adrenaline 

The ketogenic diet entails eating primarily animal protein— this animal protein is high in fat which is hard on the female reproductive system and also creates surges of adrenaline in the body. Animal proteins are adrenalized foods, meaning they contain concentrations of adrenaline. Animal protein, regardless of how it is harvested, contains high concentrations of adrenaline due to the stress the animal is under. This adrenaline codes your body for survival, releasing a surge of adrenaline into your own body. The larger the animal, the larger the adrenals, and the greater the concentration of adrenaline.

The Reason You Feel so Good on Keto: The Adrenaline 

The reason most people claim they feel so good on Keto or any other high protein/high fat diet is not for the reasons they believe. It is because of the adrenaline reactions that transpire after eating high protein/high fat meals. It is the adrenaline that becomes addicting and gives you that feel good experience.

Stress and fertility are inversely related. When stress is high fertility is compromised. Therefore, minimizing your stress levels is essential to healing and optimizing your fertility. It's time to code your body for health and radiance.
