Embodied Wellness
Wellness as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary is “the quality or state of being in good health.” But what does it mean by “good health?” Historically, Health and Wellness were considered solely on a physical level, and that is changing. Most of us are aware of the ways to support our physical wellness: nutrition, hydration, exercise, sleep, etc. Yet, the other components of wellness, which I believe are just as important, receive less attention in the wellness conversation. Our thoughts, feelings, relationships, and emotions influence our physical health and wellness more deeply than we realize. Everything is interconnected.
Embodied Wellness is an innovative and integrative approach to wellness. It is all about reconnecting to your body– learning to trust it and listen to its innate intelligence. In listening to our bodies we become more embodied and connected, allowing vibrant health to transpire naturally. Embodied Wellness involves exploring, supporting, and nourishing The Five Elements of Wellness: Physical, Energetic, Mental, Emotional, and Spiritual. It considers all aspects of you as a soul in a human body. It is about finding the foods, rituals, tools, and practices that align with your body and mind.
Initially, I was focused on the physical element. I was doing all the “right” things to support my physical wellness, yet felt more disconnected from my body. It wasn’t until I tuned into my thoughts, feelings, and (suppressed) emotions that I realized their impact on my health. I discovered the importance of a holistic approach and found incredible tools and modalities to support the remaining four elements of wellness. It has now evolved into what I call Embodied Wellness: a personalized, integrated, and aligned lifestyle that creates true, vibrant, and radiant wellness.
Another important aspect of Embodied Wellness is trauma awareness, something that is woven into all five elements. We have all experienced trauma. The effects of trauma have impacted us in different ways. Trauma response patterns created at the time of trauma can still be at play; influencing our current patterns, thoughts, and behaviors. Trauma impacts each nervous system differently. Part of the work of Embodied Wellness is to find ways to regulate the nervous system and create a sense of safety from within. Only when we have established safety within can we create aligned change in our lives.
